TWC Week 06

Today's lesson is about BioBusiness Revolution: Healthcare and Biomedical Sciences (Past, Present and Future). BioBusiness can be in terms of biomedical, agri-veterinary, environmental/Industrial that is commercial activity based on an understanding of life sciences and life science processes. The revolution of BioBusiness had been contributing to the socio-economic and it is definitely important in reflecting the country's Gross Domestic Product(GDP).

If we look at a region/country basis: in the US, contribution towards Healthcare is by far the largest. And in South Asia, the factors are completely arranged in a way that is opposite that of the USA. But people everywhere are increasingly investing more on biotechnology. The same toolset that is being created in the biomedical sector, will help in environmental and agricultural industry, bringing high value products to come into the market. Sophisticated researches uses new diagnostic tools to analyze special illness, create medicines for cures, alternatives pertaining to health/beauty care and more preventive routes on diseases which will increase the life expectancy of individuals.

With respect to reading 1, we need to not only look into raising healthcare and medical standards to a higher level, we also need to help the developing countries to gain access to rural areas where in urban areas health care services is flourishing. We cannot neglect the developing nations because most of the diseases and problems in health are situated in these nations. Therefore such basic healthcare infrastructure is necessary to be reach out in order for the people to be at least in the healthy state.

One of the interesting take away is one of the presentation about "MHealth." I think M-Health could be one of the possible implementations in the future that could possibly attend to situation that needs immediate assistance. Outdoor activities can be one of the danger activity because any incident could take place for example, falling down from the bicycle and it requires immediate help. Hence MHealth would then come in handy because doctors could possible attend to the fracture patient and provide necessary action. So it could reduce the seriousness of the fracture.

For further discussion, How can Singapore play a part in reaching out to the rural countries for healthcare services? By educating Singaporeans? Sending Doctors? Or perhaps having internships in this rural countries?

Healthcare is just one part of the BioBusiness, hence i'm looking forward to the next session of Agriculture and the Environment revolution. I would rate the lesson 8/10 because Healthcare is one of the important plan in the in2015 for Singapore and one of the presentations had covered the essence of the plan. :)

TWC Week 05

15 years ago, have we ever thought that we are able to interact someone who is on the screen? For me, i never thought of that. I was just simply happy about the super mario that was in my "gameboy." It's amazing that 15 years later which is today, technologies have make a change in gaming sector that simply impacts the younger generation.

How Milo interacted is just as real as a human. Sometimes we couldn't differentiate ourselves with them because "they" are just too real as a person and at the same time we are too engross in the environment. Even when Milo throws the goggles, the girl reaction was just so naturally that she catches the goggles and fitted it on her. The reaction simply changes our mindset that we are in fact playing with a computerized game. That's how the gaming industry have evolved throughout the years. From a gameboy to nintendoDS to now XBOX.

It brings to my attention that how ICT facilitates the knowledge revolution. The revolution of mass media, internet, gaming, wireless technologies, interactive telecommunication, interactive systems affects the way we think, our ideas and principles. We apply what we have learnt and understand through the various research, mapped and translate into a "valuable" information which is the intangible assets, "knowledge."

One of the most interesting insights that i got was how internet changes and evolves. From a static and non interactive web to slightly more interaction web pages such as amazon and now web that seems to understand what you want or need which is GOOGLE! I think google is one of the interactive websites that increases our knowledge through the the use it's nature of search engine.

Second presentation was the in2015 which is a Singapore government plan that wishes to achieve in 2015. However it drives to my though that whether Singapore could achieve the plan of having information sharing through the use of EMRX with the GPs and the government hospitals. I felt that is it relatively hard to integrate all information at once from various GPs and hospitals because information could be repeated and worst scenario, wrong information, errors contain in the prescription. Hence I felt that is relatively important to examine the impact when comes to healthcare because it's a matter of life.

Overall, i rate the lesson 8/10 because of the content that covers how technologies changes over the years and the possible future aspects. However i felt that we could identify more on the implications and impacts of ICT because we could reflect on how ICT could possibly improve in technologies and KNOWLEDGE. :)

TWC Week 04

AHHHHHH! i'm almost done with my blog post but the moment when i accidentally hit on the "back" button, everything is gone! Now, i have to rewrite everything and i lost my thoughts! =(((( Most importantly, i thought the blogger has the auto-saved function yet i couldnt retrieve ANYTHING! This is technology.. anything could have happen..

I think "changes" is necessary and important. It help us to reflect on our current situation and seek improvements for the future. Hence understanding "Drivers of World Change" and "Change Management and Change Leadership" is very essentials to remain competitive.

To remain relevant in today's ever changing society one has to constantly seek to adapt to the surrounding. Companies who stick to old business models remain uncompetitive and forgotten over time. Governments who remain governing their country with decade-old methods remain stagnant and excluded from the growing economy. A fine example would be china who has effectively opened up its society to cultural and economic exchange. This has allowed them to be one of the world
s biggest power house at present. Even in Singapore, who long regarded Chinese as secondary and English as the preferred one has jumped onto the bandwagon of learning Chinese so as to assimilate into China's growing economy. As Darwin puts it, It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. In today
s context change is the only constant and it is only the ones who are the most adaptive that will remain relevant and non-obsolete.

It's very interesting when Tran Anh Dung introduces how social media changes the world because in today's context, social media such as facebook created an impact on the society. It changes how people communicate and sharing of information or even generate discussion. Hence recognizingly this change is relatively important because it's seems like a revolutionary change to me because it changes the way people communicate in the past and now. Just like how apple product is a good example of revolutionary change due to its innovation.

"The first follower transforms a lone nut into a leader." Below is the video that Prof showed it to us and is really true! You must be daring enough to "CHANGE!" However, a leader can never be a leader if he has no supporters. =X

When you are the leader, are you proactive in the changes?

The main attention of the diagram is the ability of individuals to cross over from informed pessimism to inform realism. This involves the change management, ability to manage, lead and respond to changes which are traits to transit across. In conclusion, to be able to complete tasks or challenges, a good leader or entrepreneur has to be able to understand the drastic change being imposed while executing a task, and has to be willing to respond, react and alter necessary changes, which will bring led to a step closer to completion or success.

Overall, I would rate this lesson as 8/10 because when it comes to the last two presentation I was not paying enough attention.

TWC Week 03

Are you the person who can think out of the box? Look at things that others couldn't? This insight was gotten from my Creative Thinking class and was somehow similar to what we had covered on Week three lesson on Technology and Innovation Management.

Tom Peters said "Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing something else." After hearing that, the very one thing that struck into my mind was the "Bubble Tea" craze. To be honest, I do not have the habit to read newspaper or to understand the global news, hence the bubble tea craze was the only event that i could remember that can illustrate what Tom Peters said is relatively true. I remember clearly that last 5-6 years ago, there was the bubble tea craze where everyone was queuing for it. It was the first drink that had the black pearl and everyone was very excited and causes long queue outside the drink stores. After a few months, competitors start to enter into the market and it can be seen that bubble tea stores increases rapidly over the time. After 2 years, most of the drink stores was forces to leave the market due to the high competition. However, recently the craze was back again BUT with different "things" now. The most current popular bubble tea store is KOI which is "different" from others because we can choose our own sugar level. It makes it creative and different from others. For technology example, Just when Samsung is creating tablet, Apple produces Ipad to the market. It created the market shares at the Summit Opportunities!

In technology, innovations is relatively important. Without new innovations, company would face challenges and worst, result in falling star. Just for example, NOKIA is one of the mobile company that was previously innovative in their mobile phones. However they are currently facing the challenge of Apple's Iphone and had been going into the falling star model. Hence, innovation management is important and having strong innovation management team to create new market opportunity.

Next, Look at my blog. Is "GREEN"! Sustainability is the next key concept we covered in the class.

This shows we are moving towards a more "cyclical” model in the industrial development. Being developing countries, resources are used and wasted that causes harm to the environment. Educating the younger generation is necessary because we want to create environmental well being for the futures to maximize value creation. Hence everyone plays an important role in helping and shaping a better future by going "Green" to ensure sustainability.

For example, Brazil is considered to have the world's first sustainable biofuels economy and the biofuel industry leader. It is considered the most successful alternative fuel up to date and becomes a policy model for other countries to learn from. It is very interesting to know that Brazil creates the most efficient agricultural technology for sugarcane cultivation in the world which uses cheap sugar cane as feedstock, the residual cane-waste to process heat and power.

Therefore in order to have value creation that promises to bring both economic and environmental well-being, We need to ensure that business and industrial models could be driven by "cyclical" model to create sustainability! Hence, everyone plays a part so start by recycling, reduce, reuse NOW!
