TWC Week 04

AHHHHHH! i'm almost done with my blog post but the moment when i accidentally hit on the "back" button, everything is gone! Now, i have to rewrite everything and i lost my thoughts! =(((( Most importantly, i thought the blogger has the auto-saved function yet i couldnt retrieve ANYTHING! This is technology.. anything could have happen..

I think "changes" is necessary and important. It help us to reflect on our current situation and seek improvements for the future. Hence understanding "Drivers of World Change" and "Change Management and Change Leadership" is very essentials to remain competitive.

To remain relevant in today's ever changing society one has to constantly seek to adapt to the surrounding. Companies who stick to old business models remain uncompetitive and forgotten over time. Governments who remain governing their country with decade-old methods remain stagnant and excluded from the growing economy. A fine example would be china who has effectively opened up its society to cultural and economic exchange. This has allowed them to be one of the world
s biggest power house at present. Even in Singapore, who long regarded Chinese as secondary and English as the preferred one has jumped onto the bandwagon of learning Chinese so as to assimilate into China's growing economy. As Darwin puts it, It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. In today
s context change is the only constant and it is only the ones who are the most adaptive that will remain relevant and non-obsolete.

It's very interesting when Tran Anh Dung introduces how social media changes the world because in today's context, social media such as facebook created an impact on the society. It changes how people communicate and sharing of information or even generate discussion. Hence recognizingly this change is relatively important because it's seems like a revolutionary change to me because it changes the way people communicate in the past and now. Just like how apple product is a good example of revolutionary change due to its innovation.

"The first follower transforms a lone nut into a leader." Below is the video that Prof showed it to us and is really true! You must be daring enough to "CHANGE!" However, a leader can never be a leader if he has no supporters. =X

When you are the leader, are you proactive in the changes?

The main attention of the diagram is the ability of individuals to cross over from informed pessimism to inform realism. This involves the change management, ability to manage, lead and respond to changes which are traits to transit across. In conclusion, to be able to complete tasks or challenges, a good leader or entrepreneur has to be able to understand the drastic change being imposed while executing a task, and has to be willing to respond, react and alter necessary changes, which will bring led to a step closer to completion or success.

Overall, I would rate this lesson as 8/10 because when it comes to the last two presentation I was not paying enough attention.

TWC Week 03

Are you the person who can think out of the box? Look at things that others couldn't? This insight was gotten from my Creative Thinking class and was somehow similar to what we had covered on Week three lesson on Technology and Innovation Management.

Tom Peters said "Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing something else." After hearing that, the very one thing that struck into my mind was the "Bubble Tea" craze. To be honest, I do not have the habit to read newspaper or to understand the global news, hence the bubble tea craze was the only event that i could remember that can illustrate what Tom Peters said is relatively true. I remember clearly that last 5-6 years ago, there was the bubble tea craze where everyone was queuing for it. It was the first drink that had the black pearl and everyone was very excited and causes long queue outside the drink stores. After a few months, competitors start to enter into the market and it can be seen that bubble tea stores increases rapidly over the time. After 2 years, most of the drink stores was forces to leave the market due to the high competition. However, recently the craze was back again BUT with different "things" now. The most current popular bubble tea store is KOI which is "different" from others because we can choose our own sugar level. It makes it creative and different from others. For technology example, Just when Samsung is creating tablet, Apple produces Ipad to the market. It created the market shares at the Summit Opportunities!

In technology, innovations is relatively important. Without new innovations, company would face challenges and worst, result in falling star. Just for example, NOKIA is one of the mobile company that was previously innovative in their mobile phones. However they are currently facing the challenge of Apple's Iphone and had been going into the falling star model. Hence, innovation management is important and having strong innovation management team to create new market opportunity.

Next, Look at my blog. Is "GREEN"! Sustainability is the next key concept we covered in the class.

This shows we are moving towards a more "cyclical” model in the industrial development. Being developing countries, resources are used and wasted that causes harm to the environment. Educating the younger generation is necessary because we want to create environmental well being for the futures to maximize value creation. Hence everyone plays an important role in helping and shaping a better future by going "Green" to ensure sustainability.

For example, Brazil is considered to have the world's first sustainable biofuels economy and the biofuel industry leader. It is considered the most successful alternative fuel up to date and becomes a policy model for other countries to learn from. It is very interesting to know that Brazil creates the most efficient agricultural technology for sugarcane cultivation in the world which uses cheap sugar cane as feedstock, the residual cane-waste to process heat and power.

Therefore in order to have value creation that promises to bring both economic and environmental well-being, We need to ensure that business and industrial models could be driven by "cyclical" model to create sustainability! Hence, everyone plays a part so start by recycling, reduce, reuse NOW!

TWC Week 02

It's week 2!

First half of the lesson covers Technology, Society and Global Dominance which focus more on Economic, Military and Cultural aspects which describes how we identify Innovation Leaders and Dominant Players through the use of "Shahi Organizational Behavior Model." Personally, i felt that the model is very useful in identifying the trend in which the industry is moving towards through their different behavioral traits and operational attitudes.

For example in the Economic Context, US is the dominant player and has played a great influence over the world's economic. However looking at current situation (financial crisis), we can hear from the news that China is picking up and expecting to be on par with US. From this, we can identify that China is the rising star because they are optimistic in their economic situation. I believe that this is a vicious cycle, as US is the dominant player, now approaching to the level of falling star and whereas China was at no where however now is in the rising star stage. Just like when there is good, there is bad.

This is what prof show us in the class, i think is really interesting to see how various countries "improve" and the "rate" of progression in between countries. This video could make me analysis who will be the next rising star, can you?

G11 class presentation on the first half was talking more on Google! How Google being dominant in the "search" market. I think Google is really the most effective search engines. I've tried various engines such as bling, yahoo, ask, live, msn but yet google is the only engine which gives me the most efficient and relevant results. Hence, Google could be the crown of the search engine. :)

Second half of the Lesson was Technology and Human Development. Human Development Index (HDI) is a tool to measure human development. HDI includes the measure of national income, life expectancy and access to education. However is it really accurate? HDI seems to increase overtime but what is the underlying reasons that causes this increase? Different countries have different kind of cultural and the way they live, can it compare? We can't compare apple and orange isn't it? The only way we can compare for HDI perhaps is by a particular country such as Singapore in the past 5 years and now. Hence from the data to analyze whether Singapore had improved it's HDI or decreased.

Second half presentation was on "Singularity, Trans-humanism and Immortality” and “Genetic Engineering”. I think it was pretty interesting when there was a discussion going on about having another "you" meaning you are being clone to be exactly like you whether in terms of IQ or EQ. Seriously come to think of it, would you want to have another you to be in the same capacity? Or perhaps you want to have someone "ideal" to be in this world? For me, i would prefer someone who is imperfect, if everyone is too perfect or same, then the world would not be as interesting because everyone thinks the same, feels the same and do the same.

For today lesson, i would rate 7/10. I would expect TWC to be more interesting, more discussion to engage everyone in the class. It's will be kinda dry if there is too much "facts" but definitely videos open up everyone's eyes! :D

TWC Introduction

Technology and the Rise of Civilizations: Historical Timeline and Technology “Revolutions”

It's very interesting that how technology has revolved over the years and play an important role in our daily life now. From the past where there isn't any telecommunications to the first telephone, to pagers to 2G mobile and now 3G mobile phone. Technology is always improving and definitely we will expect another "shift" in the next few years that could create another historical event in the revolutions.

The first lesson make me realised that technology has created the shift of "personal touch." In the past, people usually meet up face to face to communicate but currently, people uses Facebook to communicate. Technology creates efficiency but we loses the emotional part, the feelings that we could see or hear from the person we talk to using Facebook.

Technology is moving at a faster pace than we can think of. However we need to appreciate and understand how technology had created advantages and disadvantages in the world. Hence, I'm looking forward for our next few sessions to understand how technology has changed to create a dynamic world. :)
